Around 6 months ago I started a new job as Chief Executive Officer at Salford Loaves and Fishes, I’m new to Salford and did not really know the area very well after working for the last 20 years at The Wellspring homeless charity in Stockport.
The difference between Salford and Stockport is huge, Stockport is a bit like the Vicar of Dibley compared to Salford. One thing that’s really blown me away at Salford Loaves and Fishes is the professionalism and dedication of the staff team. I’ve worked with hundreds of homelessness workers both paid staff and volunteers. I’m yet to come across any bad staff or nasty people in Salford. Could I say the same about my time working in Stockport? Absolutely not. No more putting up with gossiping, back stabbing poisonous people, only out for themselves with their own agendas. Good riddance.
I was delighted during my time in Stockport to have achieved 8000 positive outcome a year. That number will be smashed in Salford. At least double.
Services are more professional, people are supported to a much higher standard in Salford. I will always be very proud of developing the wellspring project and everything it achieved. However I am delighted to now be working for a charity that values its staff and achieves outcomes I could only dream about in Stockport. In the last 3 months my support staff team have prevented over 350 people from becoming homeless and provided thousands of positive interventions that have made a real impact on the lives of the people we support.
We can and will do more.
